On behalf of the German Society for Infectious Diseases (DGI) and the DZIF partner site Hamburg–Borstel–Lübeck–Riems, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to Lübeck for the DGI / DZIF Joint Meeting 2027.
This meeting reflects the shared commitment of DGI and DZIF to advancing infectious diseases research, strengthening clinical practice, and fostering translation across disciplines. It also highlights the complementary expertise of the Northern German partner institutions, which uniquely combine university medicine, national research centres, translational research, and high-containment virology. Together, they provide an outstanding environment for interdisciplinary collaboration across the full spectrum of infectious diseases research.
The challenges posed by infectious diseases continue to evolve rapidly. Emerging pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, demographic change, globalization, and advances in biomedical technologies are continuously reshaping both research priorities and clinical practice. Addressing these challenges requires close collaboration across disciplines and the seamless translation of scientific discoveries into improved patient care.
Over the years, the DGI / DZIF Joint Meeting has become an established platform bringing together clinicians, basic scientists, translational researchers, data scientists, and public health experts. A defining feature of this meeting is its strong emphasis on integrating translational research with clinical practice. By connecting discoveries from the laboratory with the realities of patient care, while allowing clinical observations and unmet needs to inform future research, we aim to strengthen the bidirectional exchange that drives innovation in infectious diseases.
The scientific program with its panel of outstanding experts in different scientific areas reflects the breadth and interdisciplinary nature of contemporary infectious diseases research. It spans fundamental insights into host–pathogen interactions, novel diagnostics and therapeutics, antimicrobial stewardship, emerging infections, precision medicine, and the integration of artificial intelligence into infectious diseases, with a strong focus on their translation into clinical practice.
Supporting the next generation of clinician scientists and infectious disease researchers remains one of our central commitments. We warmly encourage early-career investigators to actively participate by presenting their work, engaging in discussions, and building the collaborations that will shape the future of infectious diseases research and patient care.
The meeting will take place in Lübeck, a charming UNESCO World Heritage city in northern Germany, renowned for its beautifully preserved medieval old town, iconic Brick Gothic architecture, and rich Hanseatic history.
We are looking forward to an inspiring meeting filled with stimulating scientific discussions, new ideas, and lasting collaborations. We hope that the exchanges during these days will foster future advances in infectious diseases research and ultimately contribute to improving patient care.
